How to Improve SAT Math Section Score

Whether you're trying to score a 500 or an 800 on the SAT Math section, the key to achieving your goal is practice. You should practice as much as you can and practice effectively.

Learn from Your Mistakes

It's not enough to just take SAT practice tests and toss them aside to take another. Instead, after you take and correct a practice Math section, take note of the questions you missed. Why did you miss them? Were they careless mistakes or did you not know how to do them?

Examining your mistakes is the most important part of Math practice, because if you understand your mistakes during practice, it's less likely you'll make the same mistakes on the real SAT test.

Identify Weakness

Something else you should look for in your SAT practice test mistakes is if they follow a theme. Are they mostly Algebra? Geometry? Do most of the mistakes occur on grid-ins or is it just multiple choice? After you've found your weakness, you'll know exactly what to work on! Go through practice Math problems looking for problems that are likely to give you trouble, and try to solve them. If you can't solve a problem, look at the solutions, or find someone who can help.

Remember, the more mistakes you make during practice, the less likely you'll make the same mistakes during the real SAT.

Practice, practice, practice. You'll be thankful you did.
